- Add the following repository to /etc/yum.repo.d/gitco.repo with the following content
name=Red Hat Enterprise Linux $releasever $basearch - GITCO XEN3.4.3
- I also had these other yum repositories. I dont know whether these repositories helped in resolving dependencies. rpmforge.repo , epel.repo. There are lot of documentation on the web for these getting and configuring these two repos. So i am not going to discuss on that. I also had a dump of all software that comes with rhel 5.5 x86_64 in my desktop machine which had httpd running in my desktop. So the server i am working on was pointing to these repos. I named the repo as local repo. the contents of the repo i created are as follows:
name=Red Hat Enterprise Linux $releasever - $basearch
- Then install the xen
yum install xen virt-manager kernel-xenAfter that it add a kernel with xen package in grub . You have to reboot your server while choosing xen kernel while rebooting in the bootup grub menu.
- I installed virt-viewer rpm from google search. Then do the following to install windows 2008 server enterprise in rhel 5.5 x86_64:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/var/lib/xen/images/win2k8-ad.dsk oflag=direct bs=1024k seek=30000 count=1The above craetes a file which is used as disk for for windows server 2k8 of size 30GB. Then run the following command which actually starts the installation of win 2k8
virt-install --name=winAD --hvm --ram=8192 --os-type=windows --os-variant=win2k8 --disk path=/var/lib/xen/images/win2k8-ad.dsk,size=30 --arch=x86_64 --network network=default --vnc --cdrom=/home/ashwin/en_windows_server_2008_r2_standard_enterprise_datacenter_web_x64_dvd_x15-50365.iso
- Now gui will open with windows 2k8 r2 server installtion follow the steps as guided by iunstalltion and have a happy win2k8 server installation.
